I came across this website by accident. I am a nursing student and am currently doing my OB rotation. I know that some people have negative experiences with pitocin, but we need to keep in mind that this drug also does good things. No one knows how the drug is going to react to their body and like anything it is a risk women take. There is less of a risk when a women carries her child past the 42 wk mark. We have to face it that some womens' bodies wont labor naturally. Who knows maybe a c-section would be a better option. There is a great risk to a baby when meconium staining has occured. If aspirated during birth it could lead to ARDS. I guess that it is just one of those things that a person has to do what is the best option, but there are going to always be the negative side. This is life and stuff like that happens, but a lot worse would happen if we let all of these babies be overdo.
