First off I just want to say I am sorry and big hugs to anyone who had problems and complications from pitocin. I also wanted to share my story. I am in Ontario Canada. My son was due May 24, 2004. On Mon May 10th I went to my Dr and he discovered that my blood pressure was high (it had been normal up to that point). He told me to stop work right away and put me on bedrest. I went back to see him on Thursday and my bp hadn't improved at all so he decided it would be best to induce me. He checked me to see if I was dialated at all & he said I wasn't dialated and not very induceable. He sent me to our OB/GYN specialist that afternoon & she said I was 3-4 centimeters, 50% effaced and very stretchy. She called my Dr and made arragements for me to be induced the next day. I went into the hosptial the next morning at 7:30am. I had to have antibiotics for Strep B. My Dr broke my water at 8:30am and I walked around the hospital for awhile - my contractions started almost immediately. They started the pitocin & I was in active labor by 11:30am. I didn't have a epi - I had a shot of nubain at around 3:30ish - I was 9 centimeters by then. I started pushing at 4:36pm and had Charlie at 5:01pm. Everything was fine, he was beautiful & my blood pressure was back to normal as soon as they did my 1st bp check after the birth. I had no complications whatsoever. The only thing that happened was my son ended up with jaundice but many babies do. He has always been a very healthy, bright and happy baby. I also want to add that I was overweight when I became pregnant and gained 50lbs with the pregnancy.
