My son was 10 days past his due date, and roughly 9 1/2 lbs, I had just turned 19 years old and knew nothing about the complications from induction, nor what methods my doctor might use. I was put on pitocin, later my water was broken by a half hour long contraction, and the nurse fearing fetal distress, turned my pitocin OFF. Later when the doctor came to check me, he said it hadnt broken fully, he broke it the rest of the way which was EXTREMELY painful, gave the nurse a hard time about turning off the pitocin... during the day I had an epidural for the tremendous amount of pain i was in, and 23 hrs later my son still wasn't ready to be born! Couldnt be born possibly... In that last ditch effort for a vaginal delivery... if this didnt work it was a CSection which he didnt want to give... first the doctor tried pushing... which i couldnt feel ANYTHING at this point, couldnt help at all they thought, the nurses put their forearms across my stomache and bore down with their arms and my body nearly doubled... nothing... vacuum extractor... nothing... the foreceps... the foreceps went in... and didnt close, he took them back out, they closed, and he decided to use them anyway cause we were halfway there... he brought my son out tearing my episiotomy and giving me more stitches than a C-Section... he sewed me up for over an hour. I asked. I look back and wonder alot of things about that day and that pregnancy about how we were treated by this doctor and his office. And chances that were taken with my sons and my health. That half hour long contraction wasn't the worst thing that could have happened to us, but it might have been alot worse if not for the quick thinking of the nurse who was called in and pulled the plug on the pitocin at that point. She unfortunately was reprimanded for it :( and maybe she wouldn't take that small step that saved us for the next lady :( now that would be tragic!
