My husband and I have been discussing whether or not to have another child and I stumbled upon this website while searching under postpartum hemmorage. I want to tell you my story. My son Dylan was born on August 12,1998(his due date). I had a great pregnancy. No complications. I woke up the morning of Dylan's birth at about 6am with some tightening in my abdomen. No pain, but the tightening was enough to be uncomfortable. I got out of bed and called my Mom. Lucky for me, she lived in the same complex. She told me to take a shower and come on over. Over the next couple of hours the tightening (contractions) got stronger but still no pain. I called the Dr. and they told me to come on in for an exam. At the Dr's office, they informed me that I was 2 centimeters dilated and 80% effaced. I was told to go home and come into the hospital when the contractions were 5 minutes apart. I went home, ate, and in a couple more hours I said the hell with it and away we went to the hospital. My Dr. checked me, said that there was no change but I had the decision to either go home, or they could hook me up to a pitocin drip and get things going. I took the drip. It was my first child, I was anxious, and I thought how cool it would be for him to be born on his due date. Well, I got the pitocin, and about an hour later I was in alot of pain. So much so that they gave me statal for it. Three times. Anyway to make a long story short, after Dylan came out I hemmoraged. Luckily I did not lose my uterus, but I lost alot of blood. And I didn't labor that long. 9-10 hours. My new doctor has said that if I do decide to have another child that they will be prepared. I will also be prepared. No going to the hospital until absolutely neccessary. No Pitocin unless absolutely necessary, and no other drugs other than an epidural.
