I would like to share my story & get feed back from anyone finding the same problems I am having now... I was due on May 10th 1999. With no contractions or dilation happening- my doctor sent me to the hospital on May 17th at 4:00 pm. They started pitocin & gel inserts. I was on pitocin until 10:00 pm. The next moring another insert into my cervic & pitocin was started at 6:00 am. No contractions all day long. The pitocin was turned off that evening. I don't know the exact time I was tired & hungry & did not want to be pregnant anymore ! The next morning was Wednesday the 19th. Once again the pitocin was started at 6:00 am. With nothing still happening my doctor "popped" in for the first time since I entered the hosiptal & decided to break my water at 1:00pm. Let me tell you the contraction started then ! I was screaming. My mom was up there with me at the time & heard words come out of my mouth that she has probably never heard before!!! I yelled for drugs..An epidural was started at 2:00 pm. Mind you I was still on pitocin. Around 6:30 ish I was dilated to a 9 & my doctor told me to push anyway. I spiked a fever of 103 & started throwing up in between pushing. I was shaking badly & felt very cold. At 9:00 a specialist was called in, they ended up using the vacuum exstractor & at 10:37 my son was born. At the time I was so happy not to be pregnant anymore that it didn't even dawn on me I should have had a c section. I was kept on pitocin for excess bleeding for the rest of the night. My son "Dylan" was perfect, no problems or so we thought. I may be hitting gray area here. At 18 months he was not speaking-he is now 3 1/2 and has PDD nos, with Verbal Apraix, sensor disorders & auditory processing problems. We go to a lot of groups & pitocin keeps coming up with this "special need" chidren. Can anyone add to this ? Before we found out about my son's problems I gave birth to my daughter on Jaunary 28th, 2001. I was 2 days past my due date- but stared contractions on my own. Entered the hospital at 6:00pm, was given an epidural around 10:00pm. Of course my contractions stopped- so I recieved pitocin. Once again, I threw up & shaked so badly it looked like I was having a grand mal! She was born at 1:23 in the morning. She is almost 2 & also has speech issues..nothing like my son where she will be labled with anything though. Anyone else have a special need child? Nikki
