Wow! I had no idea so many people have had problems with Pitocin. I am expecting my 6th baby. All five of my others have been induced with Pitocin because I just don't ever go into labor. They have all been between 1 to 2 1/2 weeks overdue, started with Pitocin and (thankfully) I have had epidurals every time. I haven't had a horrible experience yet, but I found this site because my sister, who is a nurse, told me I better do some research. With delivery of number 5, the labor and delivery nurse told me she had been a l and d nurse for 20 years an had never seen anyone on as much Pitocin as I was. Apparently, if they give it to you once, your body won't respond unless they give you a higher dose the next time. You can imagine what kind of dose I am on by now. Anyway, I am concerned about the high dose of Pitocin and the potential for uterine rupture, especially because I have had 5 previous full term births and my research has shown that after 4 full term births your uterus has been stretched out so much there is a higher incidence of uterine rupture. Due to my past history, I think I have to plan on being induced again because I don't think I will go into labor (by the way, previously I have tried everything--castor oil, jogging, walking for miles, etc., you name it, I have tried it). Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? If I refuse Pitocin, is my only option C-section? Thanks!
