I had my first child in March of 1990 at 25.I was in hard labor for 9 1/2 hours with nothing. I was in pain but it was'nt the kind of pain that made me lose my mind.I never once raised my voice and stayed calm the entire time.In 1997 I had my second child. My Dr. wanted to induce 12 days early with Pitocin because I had severe P.U.P. (which I had last time also)The Pit drip was started at noon and I delivered 2.45 hours later and I will tell you honestly that I lost my mind.I screamed so loud,I was hysterical and terrified because I knew that this kind of pain was not normal and not one told me anything about Pitocin.I knew that I was going to die and I did'nt care!Everything turned out fine but I will never again have Pitocin and I'm due in August.I'm not saying that my choice is right for anyone else but I know that if that had been my experience the first time I would have NEVER had a second baby.I was so out of control and no matter how hard I tried I could'nt regain any.I have since learned that Pitocin was originally intended to help Horses deliver, because of their body structure they have difficulty passing the foal,They also cannot vomit due to body structure which is why a mere stomach ache is so dangerous for them.Like I said,My story is not intended as medical advice for anyone ,It is just my experience.
