Many years without knowing what happened

I was 23 years old at the time. My blood pressure was sky high and my OB wouldn't touch me. He wanted me to go to a high risk doc at the University. My rheumatologist was there. Lupus and pre-eclampsia made me a high risk patient and I was sent to the University Hosp. in my state to give birth to my son. I was induced on November 16th 1991. I was 7 months along. They figure 31-32 weeks. Sever pre-eclampsia was the reason for inducement. I was started on the drip at 8:30 a.m my water broke at 3:00 p.m. and stronger contractions started at 6:30 p.m. I had my 4.5 pound healthy son at 9:02 p.m. His lungs were fully developed..... Just a little stinker who was in the hosp. for 2.5 weeks. Anyway...... I felt fine, shoot. I felt great afterwards. The next morning I had a very strange feeling in my abdomen. The nurse was right there, so I told her that something didn't feel right. She checked and proceeded to lose all of the color in her face. The next thing I know there is a flurry of doctors and nurses and specialists flying into my room. Puzzled...ya you could say that. I was getting a little lightheaded. The docs told me to push like I was having the baby again. Now that really puzzled me! I still had no idea what was wrong. Well, I pushed out a 1.5 pound blood clot and was quickly signing papers and tipped on my head. I also recieved blood. About 4 bags of blood and three bags of plasma. My Parents had just gotten there to see me and there new and 1st Grandchild. And my sister to see the new nephew that was born 2 hours and 58 minutes before her birthday. My mom was in tears. She thought for sure that I was going to die. My blood pressure had all but bottomed out. It suddenly came up a little when my mother held on to my hand. (we won't talk about my ex. he might as well have not been there. Textbook creep) My pressure eventually started to come up. And I was out of danger. I never did know what had happened to me that day. My Mom never wanted me to have any other kids. She thought it was the Lupus that caused this. She figured I would die for sure the next time. Finally 9 years later as I am nearing the last trimester of my 2nd pregnancy (new husband of course LOL!)... my doctor here informed me that the probable cause of the hemmoraging was more than likely the Pitocin!!! I wish that I would have know this a long time ago. Not that it would have made a difference in the course of things, but it sure would have been nice to know why I almost died. Now I know. I may have to be induced for other reasons this time. At least my doctor knows that I can't have pitocin. My son is now a big healthy 9 year old, and is very much looking forward to the birth of his baby brother or sister. No pre-eclampsia yet, and I am keeping a positive outlook on things. Thankyou for giving people a place to post their experiences with Pitocin. Chelle edd 5/29/01 Bobby 11/16/91
